11/8/2012 11:41:00 AM. - Anna - Mexico City

We live in a country where street dogs and cats are common and there is little to no support for those who try to help. This means that we constantly rescue animals from the street, neuter them, and then if they are young enough put them up for adoption. Every now and again we get one with behaviour problems or who is simply too old to change family yet again. So those stay and live the rest of their days out. Obviously after 29 years of doing this there are plenty of stories to share but this particular one is about a cat who didn't know she wanted a second chance. Her name is Arrarra, and she grew up wild on the streets of Mexico city. She hated people because they had taught her they were cruel and so she did everything in her power to keep as far away from them as possible. One day our vet noticed she always seemed to sleep in the same place and so he began leaving food for her and eventually set a trap which he was able to catch her in. After her operation, they were reluctant to set her free again and so they called us to see if we would take her. We knew the probabilities of her actually settling in a household of five humans, 17 dogs and 30 other cats were small, but we agreed to take her in the hopes of keeping her safe at least till she recovered completely from her operation. After a week of her being caged, we were able to sit closer to the cage without her striking out. A week later my sister was able to open the cage door and put the food and water in without risking attack. Little by little Arrarra began to inch closer to us as we moved around her cage, but our hands were testimony to our attempts to touch her, we had so many scratches they looked like quilts in some areas. We eventually let her out of the cage and resigned ourselves to finding her gone one day. But after hiding underneath the wardrobe in my sister's bedroom for three weeks she finally emerged, and began to sit at the end of my sister's bed and watch her. 7 months later, We can all scratch her ears, although if we sneak up on her to do it we get swatted. She will sit on my sister's lap for hours at a time, my sister does not dare move her when she settles as she gets angry and scratches. But little by little she is settling in to family life. And we know she is aware of what we have done for her because despite being able to leave the house and go into the river, she now comes back and calls through the window to be let in. Our wild hellcat, has discovered she prefers to be a family and house cat :o)

last week i went to my school at 5 and helped serve the spaghetti dinner for two hours. we had a lot of people come. it was really nerve-racking at first, but in the end it was a lot of fun! we got to say "Hi my name is Kiersten, and i will be your server tonight" and other little things. we got notepads to take down people's orders and it was SO much fun!

I work at my schools school store, and last week a person I don't usually hang out with, was working all alone during the busiest time in the morning. So i stepped in and helped her out. When the three other people who were SUPPOSED to be working finally showed up, i quietly left without saying much. My teacher who's in charge saw and thanked me afterwards. :)

in school, when my class has a subsitude, my friends and i ask her if she needs help of tells her what we normaly do in class if she or he does not know what we normaly do in class.we always are nice and play with atistic kids and make them feel special, not different. i personaly helped atistic kids in 2nd, 3rd, and that is it because teachers dont permit children in special program called excel be in it but i still play with them at recess. that us my random act of kindness toward others at shool!

Hi everyone! Just updating from my previous post about giving Skippy to a girl with a sore leg. So today, this girls parents came to my house and they were so grateful for what I did because it turns out that they can't even afford their own kangaroo so their daughter has to WALK to school every day, even with a sore leg. So I told them they could keep using Skippy until her leg gets better because we have two kangaroos so I can use the other one for the time being. And our other kangaroo has a joey so once it gets bigger we have decided to give it to their so they won't have to walk everwhere!I am so lucky to have never been in this situation so I am looking forward to giving back.

Even though acts of kindness are something that should be done all year and in many cases we all do , Thanksgiving/Christmas time bring out different feelings and one that I have been doing for many years, Each year our family goes back home in a small town in upper NY for Thanksgiving and there is a little 24 hour diner that have the same people working there for 15-20 years, Knowing they work hard dont have much and have always provided a service with a smile, I have always stopped in late at night, ordered just a couple items but make sure that gratitude are spread out for everyone that night. With a bill of $10 and tips of a $100, I have never told them my name,But the feeling cant be measured
